Hello, I’m Christy Mayfield
I believe that when we combine our gifts with our passions we find our purpose in life. I have always been a writer and I know that writing led me to my purpose. I also found that when you have a passion for writing, yet you’re only doodling sticky notes and random thoughts and you’re lacking for the content you are meant to share with the world, life will present the content. So here I am, about to bare my soul to you because I have learned that when we heal ourselves we can then help heal others. You and I are connected in that place.
You too will come to a point on your new path when you can finally look back and say, “Yes, I have hurt and I have healed.” Each day is another step down your path of new beginnings, and THAT is exciting!
Everyone has the power to transform their life, despite the obstacles experienced. That doesn’t mean it will be easy, but you are never alone. Now, lets step forward and walk this journey together…. because despite the obstacles, you are stronger than you even know!

“Marry Me” Doesn’t Mean “I Love You”
Abuse is not about “anger issues.” Abuse is a choice and it is progressive. It has no borders and occurs between intimate partners, adults, and dating teenagers. It is not limited by gender, race, or sexual orientation. The red flags and cycle of violence follow the same patterns. Nine months after my wedding, I found my way out of an abusive relationship when my husband loaded a .44 Magnum and tried to murder me. I lived the abuse that takes place behind closed doors.
I know the deep pain and immense heartache that can result from a relationship that becomes abusive. I also know the deep joy and immense healing that results when you are able to navigate your way out. “Marry Me” Doesn’t Mean “I Love You” is a book filled with inspiration and hope that will help guide men and women toward a life of happiness, free of abuse. This book educates, inspires and empowers those who are experiencing abuse and the family and friends who love them.
“Finding My Rhythm Again”
In this book, I provide a concise index of domestic violence resources never before found within one book. These resources include easy to follow safety plans for adults and children, as well as resources and strategies to help keep your pets safe from domestic violence. Also unique to this book is the awareness I bring to the interrelated effects of domestic violence and pet abuse. Nearly 75% of women in domestic violence shelters have reported that their abuser also inflicted abuse against the family pets. For this reason, many victims of abuse often stay in an abusive relationship for fear of leaving their pet with the abuser.
Within these pages, I offer an index of pet shelter options, including state domestic violence shelters known to accept pets, pet-friendly hotels, and information on pet protection orders offered within the various states across the US. You are stronger than you think! There is hope! As we continue to walk together, gathering with us more and more women and men who have lived the abuse and are ready to be free, we will continue to inspire others as we walk with them. You too will come to a point on your new path when you can finally look back and say, “Yes, I have hurt and I have healed.” Each day is another step down your path of new beginnings.
